Developing skills at Seagulls
Seagulls is located within the grounds of Waimea Heights Primary School and caters for children aged from 3 to 5 years. At Seagulls we enjoy the benefits of the wider school environment as well as a local environment that caters for walks in bushland style areas with the opportunity to explore the natural environment.
Experiences are planned based on observations of individual children’s developmental stage and interests and many factors are considered when planning the Seagulls program. The curriculum emerges and evolves based on development of skills around establishing positive relationships with educators and peers, continuing to build self help skills, learning to be part of a group, developing independence and school readiness. Individually focussed activities are combined with activities planned for whole group participation, giving children a wide range of experiences over a year.
Seagulls activities include early literacy and numeracy activities, structured and unstructured physical play, art and craft, cooking, music, dancing, multicultural experiences, gardening and local and wider community excursions.
The centre was purpose built in 2005 and the outdoor play areas reflect a focus on the natural environment, and children are able to move between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
A calendar of outings is available by February each year and includes regularly scheduled visits to the Rosny LINC (Library), Kingborough Sports Centre and Hobart PCYC for Kinder gym. Visits to the Botanical Gardens, Museum, local parks and other places of interest are also included in our program. Of course there is choice as to whether your child attends and we encourage parent participation!
Preparation for formal school life happens naturally through attendance at the Seagulls program. Seagulls educators work in communication with the Waimea Heights School to ensure a smooth transition to formal school life. Connections remain strong and are supported with availability of After Kindergarten and After School care on site.
Lisa and the Seagulls team look forward to meeting you soon.
